Courtyard Project and Recyling Week

As of now, we have two projects in the works: the Courtyard Project and Recycling Week. The Courtyard Project, as you know, is an effort to rejuvenate the area behind the library and in between the science and interdis wings. The Latin classes recently planted in certain areas, but with our help it could be made even better. The Recyling Week is an initiative to get students to recycle more. More details for both activities can be seen after the jump.

The Courtyard Project has gone through several incarnations in an effort to find something possible to do. Unfortunately, painting a mural is almost impossible due to the red tape surrounding a project of that manner. As of now, our projects consists of two (highly doable) goals: plant attractive, native, low-maintenance plants in the area, and install clearly labeled plastic bottle and trash can receptacles in a highly visible manner. Because a project of this type requires much in the way of planning and meetings, all interested members should print out, complete, and return the following form to Ms. Brown (room 136) by January 25th: Courtyard Project Interest Form

Our second project, Recycling Week, is an effort to increase recycling at Abington Senior High School. Students would bring in clean cans and bottles, and collect them in one of their classrooms (probably social studies) over the course of a week. The winning class would receive some sort of a prize. Because this is a multi-faceted project that can potentially interest a variety of members, this will be our main project that will be worked on at the next meeting (January 29th). If anybody has any ideas for this project, feel free to leave a comment- I’m hoping that if we get enough endorsements/ideas, I can talk to the right people and we can begin doing direct work when we next meet.

    hey dorrene!
just wondering…are we also going to try for plastic trays in the cafeteria considering how wasteful the styrofome is? I know we talked about it a couple of meetings ago but i wasn’t sure if the plan was in fact an actual plan and not an idea. Thanks!

    Hey Sarah,
I don’t think anyone looked up the pricing, although I do want to get further details on that. Personally, I don’t go to lunch, but if somebody could post the dimensions of one of our cafeteria trays (or better yet, ask one of the lunch ladies how much they cost) here we could start making price comparisons. After we get that first step done we can take it from there.
